Flexible Learning for Students in Grades 3–12

The Firebaugh Long-Term Independent Studies School provides an alternative educational option for students in grades 3–12 throughout the district. This fully online program is designed to support students and families seeking a flexible learning environment while maintaining academic progress and personalized support.

Our program is based on parent and student requests and offers students the opportunity to complete coursework online with guidance from a credentialed teacher who regularly connects with students and families to provide academic support and monitor progress. Our goal is to create a supportive and flexible learning experience that helps every student thrive.

Students enrolled in the Independent Studies School will work through online coursework while receiving regular communication, guidance, and assistance from their assigned teacher as needed.

Application Process

The application process for the Firebaugh Independent Studies School typically begins at the student’s home school.

Step 1: Initial Meeting

Parents and students meet with the principal or academic counselor at their home school to discuss the Independent Studies option and determine whether the program is an appropriate fit for the student’s educational needs.

Step 2: Student Intake Form

A Student Intake Form is completed and reviewed by the home school site administration.

Step 3: Review and Approval

The completed intake form is submitted to the principal of the Firebaugh Independent Studies School for review. Requests may be approved or denied based on the student’s needs, academic standing, and program requirements.

Step 4: Academic Plan Development

Upon approval, an individualized academic plan will be created to support the student’s educational goals and success within the program.

Important Enrollment Information

Enrollment in the Independent Studies School is required each school year. Students are not automatically re-enrolled from year to year and must complete the application process annually.
