Guidance
There is a collaborative relationship between El Puente High School and the Guidance Counseling Office at the comprehensive high school (FHS). Student data is reviewed by both campuses and parent meetings are held before students are enrolled at EPHS. Once the student is enrolled, the EPHS principal creates an academic plan for that student based upon the credits in their transcript and what will be needed for returning to FHS or graduating from EPHS on time. FHS counselors periodically travel to EPHS and meet individually with students.
The EPHS principal was a high school counselor for 4 years and has sufficient knowledge of monitoring student progress, graduation requirements, college application processes, financial aid, and assigning electives that are aligned with their post-secondary transition plans.
The FHS guidance counselors also include EPHS students in events for seniors interested in applying to institutions of higher education such as College Night for the greater Fresno area, pre-registration and admissions testing at the West Hills College campus, FAFSA workshops for students and parents, and other application requirements that students may not be aware of.
